Symbolic Meaning: Hope. New life on earth. Peace (after the Flood, a dove with an olive branch in its beak flew back to Noah). Light being manifested (in early times, olive oil was used for lamps). Transmutation (olives cannot be picked from the tree and eaten; they must be marinated and have to undergo a chemical process in order to be edible).
The Mount of Olives was a kind of power place for Jesus and His disciples. The last anointing (with oil) is a symbol for death and rebirth.
