Healing Properties Associated with Brecciated Jasper
Jasper is the supreme nurturer. It is an excellent stone to be worn during times of loneliness or solitude because it helps remind us of the oneness of humanity and our connection with not only people but the animal and plant realms as well. It is a sustaining stone and represents the elemental man and helps keep ones energy up, so is particularly useful during times of hospitalisation, or when one feels particularly tired.
Brecciated Jasper, is associated with helping one find ones true path in life.
About Jasper
There are many different types of jasper. It is one of the large group of minerals called chalcedony, a type of quartz.
Brecciated jasper is often named poppy jasper, although, contrary to popular belief, whilst very similar, they are not identical. In order to clarify this point I visited the Natural History Museum in London to study their specimens. The two minerals both have a wonderful burgundy as their base colour but I found that Brecciated jasper has quartz inclusions while true poppy jasper has none. A slice of poppy jasper will show just how it came by its name as the colours spangle out in poppy shaped flowers, mainly with a rich red creating the blooms.
Due to the bead shapes used in jewellery making it is often very difficult to distinguish the two minerals, and extremely hard to capture the true beauty of the almost watercolour like splashed poppies in poppy jasper. We hope at some point to be able to source some poppy jasper slices to offer both in our jewellery and as specimens.
Brecciated jasper has a gorgeous crazy paving effect. The word breccia simply means “rock composed of sharp-angled fragments embedded in a fine-grained matrix.”
